No item number for Madhuri

Madhuri Dixit’s desi avatar in Ghagra, the item number from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in which she shook a leg with Ranbir Kapoor, seems to have gone down well with movie-goers. The diva impressed one and all with her graceful moves and incredible poise.

And now, rumours have been spreading that she’s all set to do another item number — this time, with Ranveer Singh.

Word on the grapevine was that this song would be for the upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Ram Leela, which also stars Deepika Padukone.

However, sources reveal that there is actually no truth behind these claims and term it a case of “wishful thinking”. The reality is that there is no space for an item song in
Ram Leela.

“We don’t know where these stories of an item song with Madhuri Dixit and
Ranveer Singh started. The truth is, there is no truth to these rumours,” says the source.
No matter the positive response to Madhuri’s presence in Ghagra, there have been no talks to bring Madhuri on board Ram Leela.

“Firstly, there is no situation for an item song in Ram Leela. Secondly, why would Sanjay sir repeat the Madhuri-younger hero format in an item song? This is nothing but someone’s wishful thinking. Sanjay sir will call Madhuri to dance for his film only when there’s a situation to better what he did in the Maar Daala and Kahe Chede Mohe dance numbers in Devdas,” the source adds.

However, there certainly will be a generous dose of dance in the film — from none other than Deepika Padukone, the lead actress of Ram Leela, who will be performing a dazzling
garba dance number in the flick.

Prepared to step into Bollywood

Acclaimed music director Ilayaraja’s son Yuvan Shankar Raja is ready to debut in Bollywood as a music director for Emraan Hashmi’s next film. The movie is to be helmed by director by Kunal Deshmukh.

Yuvan’s talent has always been compared with that of Oscar-winner A R Rahman. “Yuvan is one those music directors, whose music has universal appeal. A bit like A R Rahman, who did great in Tamil movies, then other southern languages, then Bollywood music and then Hollywood. Yuvan is a similar talent,” says Manish Hariprasad, creative director, Studios, Disney UTV.

“Well, not every 26-year-old music director can boast of 100 films under his belt. Yuvan is said to have been looking for a good film to launch himself in Hindi films.” he adds.

Shuttling between two sets

Rituparna Sengupta, who is an established Bengali actress and has done a few Bollywood films like Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and Bumm Bumm Bole, will soon be seen in Prasad Creations Calapor.

Apparently, Calapor was largely shot in Goa and Rituparna — who was simultaneously shooting for her other films — was shuttling between Goa and Kolkata.

The actress would shoot her part in the film and then fly down to Kolkata via Mumbai the next day.

She had to repeat this quite often because she had some pending work to do.
And apparently, no one on the production team had any idea of her whereabouts half the time.

Calapor deals with the subject of reformation in jail and provokes thought about the nature of human being, while infusing hope that there is good in everyone.
It also stars Priyanshu Chatterjee, Raghubir Yadav, Harsh Chhaya, Binny Sharma, P Subbaraju and Aziz Naseer.

Personal touch for Big B

Film-maker Prakash Jha’s next, Satyagraha, which is slated to release on August 30, has already grabbed attention because of its ensemble cast.

The story is set in the hinterland and to keep the essence true, Prakash has turned stylist especially for this film. Apparently, all of actor Amitabh Bachchan’s outfits have been sourced by the director himself.

Prakash Jha had a very clear idea of what he wanted in the movie. Since the film deals with the topic of revolution, he wanted his actors to look a certain way.

Moreover, for Amitabh Bachchan, he was keen on looking into the styling himself. Prakash says, “It is true that I purchased the clothes that Mr Bachchan has worn in the film. I was very particular about his look and needed the right textures and fabrics. I went with my team to buy all the clothes.”

For close to 35 days prior to commencing the shoot, director scouted the markets of Mumbai and Delhi looking for simple clothes. He went to stores and sourced out exactly the kind of costumes he wanted Big B to wear.

Throughout the film, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen wearing khadi kurtas, as that was the look Prakash was aiming for.

Once the clothes were finalised, the unit headed to Bhopal for the shoot.
