The gram panchayat polls in Andhra Pradesh, announced on Wednesday, will be a crucial test of strength for political parties ahead of the 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
State election commissioner P Ramakanth Reddy announced in the notice that polls for the 21, 543 gram Panchayats in the state will be held in three phases on July 23 ,27 and 31.
The last date for filing nominations is July 13 and Withdrawals on 17. Counting will take place on July 31 itself after 2 PM .
The election process would be completed after the declaration of sarpanch and upa-sarpanchs in each of gram Panchayats.
It will also pave way for release of Rs 4000 crore central funds for rural development works held up for two years due to delay in holding the polls.
