Last Updated 07 July 2013, 20:23 IST

In a shocking incident, a male veterinary student disguised as a girl entered a women's hostel in Bikaner and poured acid on a girl student. The youth then brutally stabbed her to death and then attempted suicide by cutting both his wrists.

The incident came to light after the victim’s room mate raised an alarm and informed police. However, it could not be ascertained why the boy attacked the girl and later tried to end his life. The deceased, identified as Meenu Chaudhary, 20, and the accused, Dinesh Sankhla, were classmates. They were first-year students at the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Bikaner, said cops.

Accused recovering

Both Sankhla and Chaudhary were rushed to PBM Hospital, where the latter was declared brought dead. Sankhla is under treatment and stable, said doctors.

Chaudhary’s face and left part of the body were disfigured with acid.  Her body has been sent for post-mortem.

A senior investigating cop said: “We are exploring all angles in the case. Prima facie, it seems that the boy loved the girl but she rejected his proposal. It would be too early to ascribe a motive to the murder.”

It is learnt that the cops have interrogated the university’s dean Dr BK Beniwal and obtained some leads in the case.  The university has formed a three-member committee
to enquire into the incident, said Vice-Chancellor A K Gehlot.
