I never indulged in caste politics: Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday hit back at the JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy who has alleged that chief minister Siddaramaiah was targetting officials belonging to the Vokkaliga community.

Asserting that he had never indulged in caste politics, Siddaramaiah said people of the state know fullly well who practised caste politics.

On Sunday, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Kumaraswamy had alleged that the chief minister has been transferring officials belonging to the Vokkaliga community. The officials belonging to the community are being targeted due to political reasons, the JD(S) leader had claimed.

‘No debate required’

Reacting to Kumaraswamy's charges, Siddaramaiah said, “I have never indulged in caste politics nor will I in future. People of the State know fully well who indulges in caste politics. There is no need for any debate on this.”

He said he was able to become the chief minister as he has always taken people of all castes into confidence.

“Those making allegations should reveal as to on which caste they are depending on to survive in politics,” he added.

Housing Minister Ambareesh, who belongs to the Vokkaliga community, too took objection to Kumaraswamy's statement, saying that people are well aware as to who tried to unite people belonging to the Vokkaliga community in 1994.

“It is not true that transfers are being done on caste basis and Vokkaligas are being targeted,” the chief minister stated.
