2.19 lakh houses to be built this fiscal

Housing Minister Ambareesh said on Monday that the government had set a target of constructing 2.19 lakh houses in the current financial year.

Speaking to reporters, he said that his department had decided to construct 1.12 lakh houses under Basava Vasati Yojane and 87,000 houses under Indira Awaas Yojane. Also, 20,000 houses will be constructed for the urban poor.

The government will soon take up a Rs 800-crore project to provide drinking water to Anekal and the Karnataka Housing Board’s Suryanagar Layout in Bangalore. Water will be pumped from the Shimsha river. The government has already approved it, he said.

Ambareesh, who is Mandya district in-charge Minister, said Mandya City Municipal Council had proposed the construction of a flyover, off the Bangalore-Mysore State highway, at Intwala near Mandya town at a cost of Rs 317 crore.

There is too much traffic at Intwala village. The local people are having a tough time due to this. Hence, the proposal has been put up before the government, he said.
