Clear the clutter, bring in good energy

There could be many reasons for such a feeling to exist in a home but from the Feng Shui point of view, the primary cause could be due to clutter. Clutter is low, stagnant, and confusing and can drain your energy.  The area where clutter exists in your home is said to have a negative influence and block the flow of events pertaining to specific areas in your life.

Most people hate to accept that they have accumulated clutter when asked to clear and give reasons to justify for keeping things which are not of any significance. Some avoid clearing clutter because it calls for a lot of effort and time, but the real reason is that clearing clutter is an emotional process and it also takes a lot of mental strength to go through it; so many avoid this process.

However, the benefits of clearing clutter, both physical and mental, by adapting Feng Shui ensures that you don’t get burdened in the long run. You will soon see a lot of positive changes, have clarity in your thoughts and visions, derive higher motivation and energy levels and reach a level of well being.

Most often the areas which are prone to stagnation and clutter are the main door or entrance area, kitchen and bedroom.

The entrance of your house gets its energy nourishment and in Feng Shui it is called the mouth of Chi (energy). Therefore, provide visual relief and bring in a sense of beauty to your main entry. Let go of any objects in your main door area that are not really needed there, such as recycle bins in full view, old unused pots etc.

In the kitchen, de-clutter the refrigerator and clean the stove and all the pots and pans. Clean out all the drawers, surfaces, light fixtures, etc. Feng Shui principles claim that the state of your kitchen is the state of your health, especially the state of your liver. The liver is the main detoxifying organ in the body. So do your liver and your health a favour and de-clutter the kitchen.

Next look at your bedroom. Clear the clutter under the bed. Thoroughly de-clutter and clean your closets. Let go of as many items as possible that you have not used in a long time and give them away in charity.

Take out all the items that create visual (and energetic) clutter and don’t really belong in the bedroom. We are most influenced by things, events, and people that are closest to us, so it is logical to apply Feng Shui to clear the clutter in your bedroom.

Once you have been able to identify and de-clutter your space, you can bring in a feel of freshness and life by introducing lush green plants or a water feature in the East sector of your living room or entrance. Alternatively, if you cannot have plants or a water feature in your space, you can bring the energy of the needed Feng Shui elements with green or brown colours for wood, and blue or black for water, or with Feng Shui art depicting either a body of river, ocean, lake, etc or lush greenery.

Remember that no amount of wind chimes, good Feng Shui colours, water features or Feng Shui plants will negate the low, depressing energy of clutter in a home. Focus on these aspects and you will surely see positive changes soon.
