Poor families will get BPL card in 2 months: Jain

'Identify real beneficiaries of BPL cards'

District-in-Charge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain has said that all the poor families will get BPL ration cards within two months, to avail the facilities from the government.

Speaking after flagging off Anna Bhagya Yojane, which provides rice at Re 1/kg to BPL card holders, he said there has been mistakes in distributing BPL ration cards.

 The eligible poor did not get BPL ration cards. There is a need to identify real beneficiaries.
The Congress-led State government has fulfilled the promise by distributing rice at Re 1/kg to poor families in the state.

MP Jayaprakash Hegde said there is no wrong in distributing rice at subsidised price when the government provides financial assistance to the industries.

He promised to release funds from MPLAD to provide computers to gram panchayats, to enter data and set right loopholes in the distribution of ration cards in Chikmagalur-Udupi constituency.

MLA C T Ravi said that policies of the government should empower poor families. Poor should get power to purchase essential commodities.

It is disheartening to note that farmers are engaged in growing horticulture crops rather than food crops.

Mudigere MLA B B Ningaiah said that there was need to make society free from hunger.
Zilla Panchayat president Rekha Huliyappa Gowda said that labourers should be given employment, to eradicate poverty in the country. MLA G H Srinivas, taluk panchayat president Basavaraj, MLC Gayathri Shanthe Gowda, DC V Yashvanth, ZP CEO Shivashankar and others were present.
