Maoists menace in Chikmagalur district could not be checked completely, because of lack of co-operation from the people belonging to Maoist-affected regions, said Superintendent of Police N Shashikumar.

He was speaking to mediapersons, following his transfer to Haveri, in Chikmagalur on Wednesday.  Compared to last few years, the people residing in Maoists affected areas are more co-operative with police. But the department has not received expected support from people in some part of the district. Now, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the police department to ensure that Maoist supporters do not increase in the district.

Several development activities have been taken up by the district administration in the Maoists affected areas. Rs five crore each has been released to Maoist affected three taluks in the district. Chikmagalur district is in the fourth position in the State in maintaining law and order.

No incidents of communal violence have been taken place in the district during last one and half years.

Commenting the sexual assault cases in Chikmagalur, he said all the accused in the sexual assault cases were arrested in the district. Of the stolen properties, 85 per cent of the properties have been recovered.
