Gautam, Karuna bag top honours

CM Gautham bagged the biggest award of the second edition of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Awards Nite held here at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday.

The right hander, who scored 943 runs at an average of 117.87 in the last Ranji season, was declared the Most Valuable Player of the Karnataka Ranji team - 2012.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who clinched a spot in the Challengers Series, described his performance as a dream season.

Karuna Jain bagged the award for the Most Valuable player of the State Senior women’s team, while Mayank Agarwal, the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the Karnataka  U-25 team. The function, instituted to recognise the top performers in various cricket tournaments conducted by the KSCA, also featured a dose of glitz and glamour as strobe lights and a dance troupe enthralled the big gathering.

Anil Kumble, the President of the KSCA, Javagal Srinath, the Secretary, Venkatesh Prasad, one of the vice-presidents, were in attendance as Karnataka’s past merged with its future.
After Kumble gave the welcome address and the report of the various tournaments conducted during 2012-13, the various awards, across age groups and different disciplines, were handed out.

Major awards:

Most Valuable Player: Men: Karnataka Ranji team 2012: CM Gautam (Jawans Cricket Club); Karnataka U-25 team 2012: Mayank Agarwal (Jawans Cricket Club); Karnataka U-22 team 2012: Karun Nair (Vultures Cricket Club); Karnataka U-19 team 2012: D Nischal (Jawahar Sports Club); Karnataka U-16 team 2012: BR Sharath (Jayanagar Colts).

Women: Karnataka senior team 2012: Karuna Jain; Karnataka U-19 team 2012: G Divya; Karnataka U-16 team 2012: C Prathyusha.
