Protesting the move to hand over the Comprehensive Child Development Programme (CCDP) to self help groups, Anganawadi workers under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Anganawadi Naukara Sangha staged a demonstration in front of DC office, here on Wednesday

.

They also condemned the decision of handing over the supply of food to Anganwadis to Sthree Shakti Sangha and said that the move was ‘unscientific’ and was against the interests of children.

“Despite serving for several years, Anganwadi workers have not been made permanent. They are made to work for very less wages,” said H S Sunanda, secretary of the Sangha.

Minimum age for appointment of Anganawadi workers should be relaxed to 35 years. All Anganwadi centres should be upgraded to Shishu Viharas. Steps to privatise Anganwadis should be stopped. Wages of Anganawadi workers should be fixed at Rs 15,000, the demonstrators demanded.

Earlier, the protestors took out a rally from CADA office which culminated in front of DC office.
Demonstrations citing similar demands were held in Mandya and Hassan.
