Monsoon gains momentum

The monsoon has gained momentum in Teerthahalli, Shikaripur and Sagar taluks in Shimoga district.

The Jog and Kargal areas of Sagar received ample rainfall on Wednesday, while Shimoga, Hosanagar and Sorab taluks received moderate showers. With the rains receding in some places, agriculture activities have picked up.

Water was released into the canals from the Bhadra reservoir, giving a boost to farming activities in the command area.

While the inflow into the Linganamakki and Bhadra reservoirs recorded a decrease, that in the Tunga reservoir increased.

Intermittent rainfall continued to lash Dakshina Kannada (D-K) and Kodagu districts on Wednesday.

A hillock caved in at Kulkunda near Subramanya and damaged the compound wall of the Vishnumurthy temple. Three to four trees were uprooted in the vicinity.

The DK district received an average of 28.9 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Sullia taluk received the highest of 48.8 mm.

Madikeri, Sampaje, Napoklu, Bhagamandala, Srimangala, Shanthalli, and Kodlipet areas received good rainfall. The inflow of water into Cauvery, Lakshmanatheertha and Harangi rivers has increased following good rainfall in the catchment areas.

The water level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,856.99 feet. The inflow of water was 7,158 cusecs and it was 768 cusecs during the corresponding period last year. The outflow was 3,263 cusecs.
