Forget aging; you can still sport to look elegant, graceful and chic. When it comes to a salt and pepper look, your hair can look sophisticated and beautiful at any age.
Metrolife spoke with some makeup artists who felt that can sport a salt and pepper hair style. It entirely depends on an individual’s choice because these days as entire style statements have changed.

Fashion Designer Jyoti Sharma says, “Every woman has her own perception and liking towards her hair style, as it's one of the most lovable assets of a woman. In today's world when trends change every now and then, women tend to keep it short and stylish because either it resonates with their style perception or it becomes easier to manage and maintain in a hassle-work environment. To be stylish and to have aged are poles apart. Today, what matters is how young and stylish you are at heart.

So, what is a salt and pepper hairstyle? What we call grey hair is not really grey, but the impression produced by a combination of white and dark hair. In salt and pepper hair, the dark is still noticeable as a colour mixed together with white.

With more days passing by, women are seen opting more for a salt and pepper look. “Women are getting more and more confident by the day. They do not want to hide their age or signs of aging beneath coloured hair or botox fillers. The modern woman is independent and has a busy schedule. She does not have time to indulge in vanities like colouring her hair often to hide the greys. So, salt and pepper suggests that the person likes to age gracefully while maintaining a fuss-free lifestyle,” says fashion designer Varruna Kapoor of Vvakalma.

Every style gets carried through trends that evolve out of somewhere or nowhere and with a salt and pepper look, you can very smartly portray yourself the way your natural hair is and keep away from the vices of colouring them. There are different haircuts to style the look as well.

“A pixie cut with shaggy fringes like bangs would really look suave, with a Bobcut it would look peppy and young whereas a side swept cut with a salt and pepper hair would make an individual look smart and hep. With a layered cut the colour scheme of salt and pepper would be vividly visible,” says designer Jyoti.

“Salt and pepper lends a very distinguished appeal to the wearer. While this look comes naturally for aged people who do not colour their hair, recently it had become a fad in Hollywood. Celebrities were getting the salt and pepper look for their hair with the help of hair colours. This set a trend and gave people with natural salt and pepper hair, to wear it with confidence,” says Varruna.
