The Karnataka Sexual Minorities Forum has sought an allocation of Rs 50 crore in the State budget, scheduled to be presented on Friday, for the welfare of its members.

Demanding the constitution of a welfare board for gender minorities under the Social Welfare Department, Mallappa Kumbar, state coordinator of the Forum, said it should comprise community representatives, experts and government officials.

One job in each government department should be reserved for the gender minorities, he said and added that free job skill development training programmes should also be started. To promote savings, micro-credit groups through NGOs should be encouraged.

Demanding a comprehensive survey of the socio-economic situation of the gender minorities in Karnataka, Kumbar urged the government to include them under Backward Classes list – 2 A.
