Chitra Magimairaj, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Indoor Games in Incheon, South Korea, was felicitated by the Karnataka State Billiards Association on Friday.

Chitra is the first Indian woman to win a medal in cue sports at the games and KSBA President Balasubramaniam, congratulating the cueist, hoped this will set a benchmark for other players in the country.

KSBA presented Chitra with a cheque for Rs 20,000.

Chitra, who was making her third appearance in the meet, had lost 1-4 (1-42, 22-48, 34-33, 8-39, 2-43) to Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee in the semifinal clash.

Chitra, thanking the BSFI for all their efforts in sending the team to the Games, said it was a very emotional day for her as she couldn’t compete under the national flag, with India suspended by the IOC.

Dedicating the medal to her family, who have stood by her from a very young age helping her to pursue her dreams, Chitra said she would cherish the moment forever.
