ZP health and education standing committee president Lakshman Gowda said potato growers should be provided with details on measures to control pest attack, using right pesticides and others along with the stress on social forestry.

He directed Horticulture officials to distribute saplings during the monsoon season and later monitor the growth of the saplings.

Agriculture and Industries Standing Committee president Nanjundaswamy said the hostels which were under the department of Social Welfare should be handed over to the respective zilla panchayats and a proposal should be sent to the higher authorities.

Explaining about the agricultural activities in the district, joint director of department of Agriculture Shivaraj said the district had recorded 413.6 mm average rainfall.

But, some regions of Arsikere, Channarayapatna, Arkalgud and Hassan taluks had received less rains. Banavara, Gandasi, Kanakatte, Javagal and other areas had received scanty rainfall, he said.

About 38.4 per cent sowing had been completed in the district and there was no shortage of fertilisers, Shivaraj said.
