Criticising the past State government for “hindering” the expansion of Mysore Airport at Mandakalli, MP A H Vishwanath said that the Congress government would take all necessary steps for its expansion.

He was speaking after a meeting of officials from Mysore City Corporation (MCC), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and other departments concerned with the airport, at its premises, here on Saturday.
At the meeting, Technical Manager of Public Private Partnership Cell of NHAI, V S Sreedhar Murthy said that re-alignment of the eight kilometre stretch of National Highway between Mysore and Nanjangud had been approved by NHAI.

However, the State government was expected to bear the cost of the re-alignment and acquisition of required land for the same.

The re-aligned road will be 1.3 kilometres longer than the existing road. Funds worth Rs 114 crore have already been sanctioned for the re-alignment of the road. NHAI has also completed the survey to re-align the highway which will pass through Hosahundi and connect at Kadakola.

De-notification

Special Revenue Inspector, KIADB, Arun Sagar said that KIADB had suggested withdrawing de-notification of land at Mandakalli, essential for airport expansion.
Vishwanath, at the meeting, said that he would consult the concerned authorities to take measures to acquire the necessary land.

He also said that he would invite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to conduct a meeting of Principal Secretaries, to facilitate the expansion of the aircraft. “The Chief Minister, Revenue Minister and PWD minister are from Mysore district. It would be easy for airport expansion if all these departments co-ordinate effectively,” he said.

President of Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sudhakar Shetty pressed on initiating air services in the early hours of morning, as the existing flights on alternate days, resulted in lengthy delays for connecting aircraft at Bangalore airport.
Vishwanth said that steps would be taken to start air operations from at least three different carriers from Mysore Airport in the coming days.

Convenor of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore, suggested the formation of a ‘Co-ordination Committee’ with departments concerned with the Airport.
