KPSC scam: Custody of two extended

The Lokayukta Special Court on Tuesday extended the police custody of the two government employees by a day.

Someshwar of the BWSSB and Sudheer of the BDA had been arrested in connection with the KPSC scam. Their custody is due to end on Wednesday.

A special team of CID officials headed by Soumendu Mukherjee has been questioning the two suspects since Tuesday afternoon. Sources in the CID told
Deccan Herald that the two men were co-operating with the investigation.

They have been questioned separately by officials and were given a questionnaire regarding various aspects of the scam.

According to sources, however, both men have claimed innocence and denied any role in the scam. The two officials even claim that the video of the sting operation, released by an electronic media channel, was doctored and the voice in the tape was not theirs.

Meanwhile, the channel ran a story claiming that a forensic examination of the sting video had conclusively proved that the voice in the video was indeed that of Someshwar and Sudheer. A senior CID official involved in the investigation told that the video has been sent for forensic examination.

The other individuals named in the first information report (FIR) have been trying to evade questioning by the CID, sources alleged. While Gonal Bhimappa has an anticipatory bail, Arunachalam and Sundar were not available in the City. CID officials said they were yet to call them in for questioning.

Three other suspects, Dr Mangala Sreedhar, Rajashekar and Ashok have been absconding, CID sources said.

The three had applied for anticipatory bail before the Lokayukta Special Court which came up for hearing on Tuesday. However, the court adjourned the case to Wednesday.
