'The journey has been easier, but not easy'

If you thought all star-kids bank upon their family’s success and legacy in Bollywood, this new member in the film fraternity will surely make you rethink.

Totally at ease and confident of the hard work he has put in, producer Kumar Taurani’s son, Girish Kumar, was recently in the Capital promoting his upcoming film Ramaiyya Vastavaiyya when Metrolife caught up with him.

The young actor is all excited about his debut. Extremely thankful for this great opportunity, he says, “It was a great experience working with legends. I have only seen them on screen. Initially I though how would it be in front of these big stars, but they are just like normal people. So working with them was a new learning.

” Veterans like Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor and Poonam Dhillon are also part of the film, which is directed by Prabhu Deva and is the remake of his own directoral debut, the Telugu blockbuster Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana.

While many would think that being the producer’s son, entry into Bollywood would be easier for him, Girish had his share of struggle. “The journey has been easier, but not easy. I am thankful to God and my parents as I did not have to struggle as much as others who come to Mumbai do.

But just because I belong to a film background doesn’t mean that there isn’t a certain level of work that has been put in,” he clarifies, sharing that he too had to give auditions and rehearse extensively. “I think Prabhuji, who has directed two big films, and my father who is such a big producer and is investing so much money into the film, must have seen some caliber in me before we started working. I really hope I have done justice to their expectations,” Girish wishfully explains.

As a new-comer one would expect the young actor to be nervous but surprisingly he is totally chilled out. “I am being asked if I am nervous but I am not! Maybe four days before the film releases it will all kick-in,” he exclaims.

Willing to put in his best, not many know that Girish has done all action sequences in the film himself. Ask him about the reason for not using a body double, he playfully says, “I didn’t know I had the option!” But then goes on to simply state, “All the safety precautions were taken (while shooting the action sequences). There wasn’t any major risk involved. The level of the stunts performed wasn’t that tough.”

“Everybody knows that Prabhu sir is a legend in his own right and I never tried to match up to him. I just tried to put my best foot forward. I am only thankful to God that I got this opportunity,” Girish signs off when asked about how difficult it was to match up to Prabhudeva’s dance moves in the film.
