Bangalore Rural Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded in police custody, Krishnappa alias ‘Bar’ Krishnappa, who allegedly drove his Land Rover car recklessly under the influence of alcohol and mowed down four and injured several people at Parappana Agrahara on Sunday night.

Krishnappa, will however be in the custody of the police only between 6 am and 5:30 pm on Friday.

Mohan, the public prosecutor, told Deccan Herald that while the police sought his custody for three days to conduct an identification parade and a medical test on the suspect, the defence argued that the two tasks did not need such long time.

They also opposed remanding him in police custody immediately as they expressed fear that if he spent a night in police custody, he might be tortured.

The judge, however, remanded Krishnappa in police custody for eleven-and-a-half hours between 6 am and 5:30 pm on Friday. He said the police should get him medically examined before producing him in the court on Friday evening to ensure he was not subjected to torture.

B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner (Traffic and Security), said that on Friday, the police would go for a detailed interrogation of the suspect, along with medical tests and an identification parade.

Unidentified body found

The body of an unidentified man aged about 40 years was found in a gutter near the Central Silk Board on Thursday afternoon.

On being alerted by the public, the Madiwala police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.

Police said the body was in an advanced state of decay and hence it could not be established whether it bore injuries.
