Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the government has directed the police to investigate the fake birth certificate scam which has come to light in Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP).

Replying to S R Leela (BJP) during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Thursday, the chief minister said that following newspaper reports on the scam, he had directed the BBMP Commissioner to look into it.

“He found that it was a concocted document and no BBMP official was involved in it. Despite this, the matter has been entrusted to police for investigation,” he said.

Compensation

Siddaramaiah said farmers who have lost their lands for the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout in Bangalore will soon receive compensation from Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), which has been long pending.

Replying to JD(S) member Marithibbegowda during the Question Hour, the chief minister said the BDA has come out with a new system to compensate the land owners who have given their property for the project, where in they will be compensated either in cash or developed property in the ratio of 40:60.

The member pointed out that work has not yet started on the project and the farmers in anticipation of compensation are virtually on streets as they have neither got the compensation nor have land to eke out a living. “Please ensure that the work starts immediately and the farmers get justice,” he said.

Siddaramaiah said the work has to be stopped as the tender quoted was 120 per cent more than the scheduled one.

“The tenders have been cancelled and a fresh tender will be awarded. Farmers will get compensation either in cash or kind once the work starts,” he said.

Drunken driving

Home Minister T J George said that despite the recommendation to cancel 3,000 driving licences of those involved in drunken driving cases, the Transport department has cancelled not more than 250.

While replying to a query by BJP member Lehar Singh Siroya, George brought to the notice of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy that 3,000 cases have been registered against the Transport department drivers.

Refering to the recent incident where in an inebriated SUV driver mowed down four persons in the City, George said that stringent action will be taken against those found driving under the influence of alcohol. He also informed the House that drunken driving has claimed 79 lives in the State since 2010.
