Woman smuggling in gold caught at Mangalore

A 29-year-old woman, who made a vain bid to smuggle in two-kg gold from Dubai, was caught at the Mangalore airport on Saturday by the officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

Acting on a tip-off, the DRI sleuths intercepted Fatima Nasreen at the scanning section and after a pat-down, found two gold biscuits and ornaments, valued at Rs 50 lakh, hidden in her undergarments.

Nasreen had arrived by the Dubai-Mangalore flight along with her businessman husband Arshad Ali Musthaq Ahmed (31), and their four-year-old son. The couple, residents
of Bhatkal, were produced before the magistrate who remanded them in judicial custody for 15 days.
