A minor was allegedly gang-raped by four youths, including a BSP leader, in a moving vehicle in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut town, about 450 km from here.

The victim, a student of 12th standard at a local school, was allegedly kidnapped while she was on her way to a tuition on Saturday evening.

She alleged that four youths gang-raped her in a moving vehicle. Then she was taken to a secluded house in the Luxmi Vihar area in the town where she was raped again. They later threw her off near a mall and fled away.

The victim alleged that she recognised two of the four accused. One of them was Amit Bhadana, a local BSP leader and the other was Sumit Gurjar.

Though the girl had narrated the incident to members of her family, they did not report the matter to the police immediately, perhaps out of fear.  The accused had allegedly visited to the victim’s house on Sunday and threatened

that they would kill her younger brother if she dared to report the matter to the police.
Circle officer Vikas Tripathi said the victim and her parents had lodged a report on Sunday night against four people. A case has been registered and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.

The victim has been sent for medical examination, police said.

Incidents of crime against women have been on the rise in the state in the past few months, triggering widespread condemnation of the ruling Samajwadi Party.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that the government will take steps to prevent such crimes.
