‘Vidya is a dear friend’

Producer-actress Dia Mirza is busy casting for three films being made under her banner and says that she would love to work with Kahaani actress Vidya Balan.

She co-owns production house Born Free Entertainment along with her beau, businessman Sahil Sangha, and actor Zayed Khan.

Their first venture as producers was Love Breakups Zindagi.

“Vidya is someone who I would love to cast in the film. She is a dear friend with a great temperament. She is an easy person to be with and is a powerhouse performer,” says Dia. Her wish list doesn’t end with Vidya, though.

“I would love to work with Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadda — they are very talented actors,” she adds. Talking about the status of the three projects, Dia explains, “We are in the process of developing three films. We will start filming in October. We have invested a year-and-a-half in scripting. It is everything that we stand by — all three will release mid next year (sic).” The common thread between the three films, according to her, is that they are “universal human stories”.

“They are all human interest stories. If I had to streamline the genre, I would say all of them are coming-of-age stories. The milieu of the characters is different. I am excited about the quality of writing. Each writer has given a year and a half (to the project). It has been an exciting and exasperating process,” she says. Film-making is different from narrating good stories on celluloid, she adds.

“A lot of us are in a hurry to just make a film. I was clear that whatever I do, it should take care of everything. The priority was the story. I wanted to tell unique stories,” she says. The actress also adds that she is not keen on acting in her films, saying, “I will not take up any role, if the film does not need me.”

Impressed by Farhan’s performance

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan couldn’t hold back her tears after watching a special screening of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which tells the strife and struggle of Indian sprinter Milkha Singh’s life.

“Jayaji seldom attends movie screenings these days. But she made it a point to be there for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag because of the family’s very close relations with the film’s director Rakeysh Mehra and Farhan (Akhtar),” says a source from the team of the film.

“After the screening, she just couldn’t control her emotions. She called Farhan aside and wept openly, telling him he had lived the pain, suffering and triumph of Milkha,” adds the source. Farhan refused to comment on Jaya’s emotional response to the film and his performance, saying it was a private moment.

Jaya says, “I loved it. Farhan was brilliant. I enjoyed a film so much after a long time.”

Known for his talent

After the success of Barfi!, film-maker Anurag Basu will reportedly be directing a movie for T-series. “Anurag Basu will be making a film for Bhushan Kumar (of T-Series). He is a talented director. Both Basu and Kumar have been in talks for two years for this project, it has got finalised now,” a source says. As of now, the makers have not finalised anything — except that Basu will direct the project. “No other details have been finalised yet, be it the story or star cast. It is premature to talk about it,” the source adds. Besides this, Anurag will be doing a film titled Jagga Jasoos and a biopic on late singer-actor Kishore Kumar. Both the films will have Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles.

Next venture from Vikram

Film-maker Vikram Bhatt has titled the third instalment of ‘1920’ as ‘1920 London’ and he is likely to begin shooting the movie with Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra in August.

“The third instalment will go on floors in August. Sharman and Meera will play the lead in the film and it is titled ‘1920 London’,” a source close to the film-maker reveals. ‘1920 London’, produced by ASA Production, will be shot entirely in London.

New guests for Sanjay

Sanjay Dutt, who will next be seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s Zanjeer, is
essaying the role of Sher Khan — which was earlier played by the legendary
Pran — in the film.

Apparently, Sanjay —who is currently in Yervada jail serving his sentence — will soon have new visitors.

Currently, the actor is not allowed to meet any one except his family.
Anyone else who would like to meet the actor has to seek permission from the court.

Word on the grapevine is that Apoorva Lakhia and Ram Charan want to meet Sanjay before the release of the film as they have worked together for Zanjeer and have bonded well. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Zanjeer stars Ram Charan, Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj, Mahie Gill, Atul Kulkarni and Sanjay Dutt.
