Co-operation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad on Tuesday announced in the Legislative Assembly that criminal cases would be booked against persons responsible for irregularities in the Amanath Co-operative Bank.

The minister, while replying to a demand by the BJP MLAs to refer the scams to the Central Bureau of Investigation, said three scams had come to light in the Bank till now.

The first scam - involving Rs 102.2 crore - was committed during the period 1992-2002, the second - of the magnitude of Rs 54.77 crore - between 2002 and 2005, and the third scam pertaining to purchase of land was of the magnitude of Rs 17.10 crore.

The police, however, have filed a ‘B’ report in the land case. But so far no criminal cases have been booked in all the three scams, the minister said.

Earlier, BJP MLAs Jagadish Shettar and Basavaraj Bommai pressured the government to order a CBI probe. Minister Prasad said the next course of action would be decided after the completion of inquiry.

Recently, Congress leaders Jaffer Sharief, Roshan Baig and others had met the chief minister and demanded a CBI probe into the irregularities in the Bank.
