Shatru bats for Advani; party not amused

Last Updated 23 July 2013, 21:20 IST

As the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha demanded that L K Advani should be kept at the helm of affairs, Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday said party president Rajnath Singh would take “cognizance” of his remarks.

The party however did not clarify whether any action will be taken against Sinha for his remarks.

“We have heard his statement. Our party president is on foreign tour. He will take cognizance of his statement. I cannot say anything more than this,” BJP spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain told reporters.

A day after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan hailed Advani as BJP's supreme leader, party MP Shatrughan Sinha described him as the “most seasoned and mature” leader seeking party to keep him “at the helm of affairs".

“I still maintain that Narendra Modi is very popular. The kind of hype that has been created thanks to media and thanks to all of us, he has been very successful. If he is projected as prime minister after parliamentary board meeting, it would be a great thing. But the rider (is) that from our point of view Advani sahab must be at the helm of affairs," Sinha told reporters at Patna earlier in the day.

The BJP leaders remained tight lipped over what action could be taken against Sinha. “There is nothing new in it. Let Rajnathjee come back. He will look into it,” a BJP leader said.

“He is the last person who would ever sulk. He has never demanded the prime ministerial position. We pray that, whoever, is decided as the prime ministerial candidate through the parliamentary board, must have the blessings of Advani," he said.
