Last Updated 24 July 2013, 20:30 IST

Dogs became a topic of discussion in the Legislative Council on Wednesday as the members demanded the state government to check the increasing canine population in the City.

M R Doreswamy (BJP) raised the topic of increasing stray dog menace in the City, saying that the government should do something about it. Deputy Chairperson Vimala Gowda too joined the chorus and demanded that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) should initiate action to bring down the number of dogs.

B J Puttaswamy (BJP) and Basavaraj Horatti (JD-S) said there are more dogs around the
Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon park and people who come to the Park for morning walk feed these dogs. Leader of the House S R Patil said the animal birth control (ABC) programme to prevent the canine population is being taken up and the government will ensure that the dog menace will come down.

But, the matter did not end here as the Leader of the Opposition D V Sadananda Gowda said in a lighter vein that the government should start a dog park to protect them. “We have elephant parks and peacock parks. On the similar lines, we should also have dog parks,” he remarked.

Reacting to it, Motamma (Cong) advised the Opposition members to take suggestions from Maneka Gandhi to prevent dog menace.
