Tension prevails as students clash in Uppinangady

A trivial incident of a boy student pulling the plait of girl student led to a group clash among students belonging to two communities, creating tensed atmosphere in Uppinangady on Thursday. The matter was settled with the police intervention.

Even as the classes commenced at the Government First Grade College, Uppinangady on Thursday morning, two groups of students engaged in a fight. Police who dispersed the crowd, took seven students into custody for their involvement in the physical attack.

I B.Com student Shahida in her complaint to Uppinangady police, has said that her classmate Ranjith was harassing her by pulling her plait for last three days. “If I question him, he used to pass comments and mentally harass me,” she has alleged.

On the other hand, five students namely, Ashith, Jawar, Abdul Zakaria, Abdul Rasheed and Musthafa who were injured in the fight have been admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.
 They have filed a complaint against students Ranjith, Manohar, Mohith, Subrahmanya, Kiran Kumar, Nithin Shetty for assaulting them for questioning against troubling the girl.

College Principal Dr Subrahmanya Bhat too has filed a complaint with the police against students for damaging the college property. Following the incident, police security has been beefed up in the town. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal visited the place and took note of the situation.
