Parents plan to move court over seat mess

Last Updated 27 July 2013, 19:04 IST

Having endured a series of mistakes and delay on the part of the Karnataka Examination Authority, the students are now in no mood to listen to excuses any more.

Parents said they would approach the court seeking remedy for the mistakes of the officials. It may be noted that the KEA, while announcing the dummy allotment, had sent an SMS to students by mistake which instructed them to fill in real options in the dummy allotment portal. It was later found that the SMS and the Facebook post were uploaded by mistake.

“They have made a joke out of students’ careers. How can they forget to announce that the list was tentative? When I logged in on Thursday, nowhere was it mentioned that the list was tentative,” said Mohammed Johar, whose son got a seat in Sri Devi Institute of Technology.

In Thursday’s list, the seat allotted was under supernumerary quota (with a fee of Rs 3,090). The seat allotted later was under general merit category (fee Rs 41,590). Nanjundaiah, a parent, said his daughter was allotted an engineering seat in a college in Davangere and in the second list of the second round, the seat changed to a college in Chamarajnagar. The parent was on the verge of breaking down.

“My daughter is depressed. Why did she have to work hard to get caught in this tangle? I will take the matter to the court,” he said, even as a KEA official who lost his temper dared him to do so.
In yet another instance, Syeda Sumaiyya, who was allotted a seat for dental course in Navodaya College on Thursday, was allotted no seat in the next list on Friday.

“They are conducting counselling for technical courses and have not been able to use technology for the purpose. All it would have required for them was to put a display board with details outside the KEA office. They could have also added more details on the official website,” said Balasubramanyam, a parent, who was at the venue to get clarification.
