UPA's failure aided NDA, says Advani

Stepping out of a long hibernation post Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s elevation to central leadership, BJP patriarch L K Advani on Saturday expressed confidence about the party getting “record breaking results” in the coming elections, but attributed the conducive political atmosphere to Congress-led UPA’s failure to curb corruption and price rise.

Speaking at the BJP Scheduled Caste Front National Executive Meeting held at the party’s Ashoka Road headquarters, Advani told the gathering: “Looking at the confidence of the SC Morcha workers here, I am sure that we will achieve record-breaking results in the Lok Sabha elections”.

The NDA working president cited favourable opinion polls appearing in newspapers and aired on television channels to say that poll findings, which are normally “prejudiced”, are now predicting that the BJP will win elections.

Advani also joined the chorus of some politicians, which believes that the UPA may go for early elections.

Interestingly, Advani credited only the Congress-led UPA’s misrule and corruption for the rise of the BJP in the political graph, leaving aside Modi’s popularity factor that, party leaders believe, is also pushing up its fortune.

“Nobody else has made the amount of effort that the Congress has made in the last three years to make the BJP win the next Lok Sabha elections.”

The leader also tried to woo dalits by asserting that the RSS never believed in discrimination on the basis of caste.

He quoted historical events to back his claim.

“When Mahatma Gandhi visited the RSS ‘shakha’ (meeting) at Wardha, he was surprised to see people of different castes sitting together and having a meal,” he said.
