Militants shoot SPO to death in Sopore

Militants on Sunday shot dead a Special Police Officer (SPO) in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Superintendent of Police Sopore, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir told Deccan Herald that the militants fired upon the 25-year-old SPO outside his residence at Ontoo Hamam, Chanakhan, Sopore, 52 kms from Srinagar, at around 9:50 am.

After sustaining multiple wounds, the SPO— Mudasir Ahmad Dar was shifted to Sub-District Hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors who attended him, Mir said.

The deceased is survived by his wife, mother and two  siblings, Hussain said.  The police have registered a case and investigation has been started, the SP added.

Reports said soon after the incident, Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, 189 Battalion of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force reached the spot along with the Special Operations Group of the police and launched a manhunt to trace the attackers.

 No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The attack comes barely two days after a sarpanch was injured when militants fired upon him at the Krankshivan Colony in the town.
