<p>Around 100 more Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers will be recruited with the government recently granting approval to an ambitious cadre restructuring in the Income Tax department.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy making and administrative body of the I-T department, has recently asked the Union Public Service Commission to include the plan of recruiting more officers in their cadre through the all India civil services examination.<br /><br />The recruitment is expected to happen as early as the next Civil services exam announcement.<br /><br />Till now, the IRS (Income Tax) cadre has 130-150 officers who used to join the department after getting trained at their alma mater at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur in Maharashtra.<br /><br />A total of 230-250 IRS officers would then be recruited and trained to join as Assistant Commissioners at various I-T offices in the country, sources said.<br /><br />Some more junior rank posts will be filled by examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Committee (SSC) while a good number of posts will be occupied by officers who are promoted to senior ranks, sources said.<br /><br />The central government in May had sanctioned a large-scale cadre restructuring the department and created 20,751 posts, in various ranks, in the I-T department.<br />According to the new blueprint of the I-T in this regard, the step will bring in a number of new changes aimed at taxpayers' comfort.<br /><br />While the number of assessment units of the department would be "increased by 1,080 from 3,420 to 4,500 for strengthening the tax administration" the step is expected to "bring additional revenue of Rs 25,756.04 crore per annum against an expenditure of Rs 449.71 crore per annum".<br /><br />The department has also decided to depute one more assessing officer in each I-T range and the number of administrative Commissioners (who look after tax collection work) will be enhanced from 228 to 250.</p>
