Even MLAs and leaders are in the dark over reasons behind truce

Several MLAs and leaders, when Deccan Herald contacted, expressed surprise at the sudden announcement of the truce. Not many MLAs, even those camping in Hyderabad were aware as to what made the Reddys, who had even refused to see Yeddyurappa’s face, to hold hands with Yeddyurappa in Delhi and announce that everything was okay.

Till Sunday Reddys wanted nothing less than Yeddyurappa’s ouster. Besides, their demands included dropping six ministers, including Shobha Karandlaje, reinstating all officials of Bellary who were transferred recently, withdrawing the toll on mining lorries, setting up a co-ordination committee etc.

Legislators’ woes

“Both the warring leaders secretly patched up in Delhi. Now, what explanation should we give to people of our constituency about the whole crisis? What reason should I give for my camping in Hyderabad all these days?” asked one of the MLAs, requesting not to be quoted.

The Reddys had been openly speaking about their demands all these days. But, at the end, they chose not to speak a word about the deal done with the CM. Has the CM promised the Reddys that their interests will be protected as far as mining is concerned? Has he agreed to fulfil all their demands? Or was it that the Reddys became jittery after Speaker Jagadish Shettar backed out? Such doubts are doing the rounds in Bangalore.

Shettar is learnt to have suddenly changed his stand on Saturday and told the Reddys that allowing Yeddyurappa to continue as the CM was in the interest of the party. It is said that the Speaker also told Bellary brothers that he is not ready to identify with them as a rebel.

Some leaders feel that the party would face more troubles in the coming days, if Sunday’s compromise formula was only a patch up between the two camps. There were many small groups of MLAs who wanted the leadership to be changed. The Reddys had led them. Now, these groups will continue to be dissatisfied and would raise the banner of revolt if their problems are not solved, sources pointed out.
