DMK protests against Tamils' plight in Lanka

Last Updated 09 August 2013, 06:04 IST

Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi on Thursday led a state-wide protest demonstration organised by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation against the deprivation of rights to Sri Lankan Tamils and to condemn the frequent attacks and arrests of fishermen by the Lankan Navy.

Speaking during the demonstration, Karunanidhi questioned the Centre as to how long the Indian government would remain mute spectator.

“How long the Centre will remain silent and how long the people of Tamil Nadu will tolerate this? There is a limit for everything,” he said.

"Fishermen are being attacked, their belongings snatched and sometime they are getting killed,” he alleged.

Reiterating his demand to boycott the Commonwealth meeting slated to be held in Colombo in November, Karunanidhi said India should also ensure there is no dilution of 13th Amendment on devolution by the island nation.
