Manjunath Eshwar (30) of Kalidas Layout in Hanumanthnagar, police, hailed from Akkinabayalu in Siddapur near Sirsi. He was caught and imprisoned in a theft case. Coming out on bail, he failed to appear for court hearing. The court issued a non-bailable warrant against him and the Siddapura police constituted a team to nab him.

Manjunath came to Bangalore and settled down in Kalidas Layout. He spun a story that he was an orphan-turned-driver. With the help of a match-maker, he contacted the parents of a girl of the same area and offered to marry her. The parents, without any background check, readily agreed to the alliance.

The wedding was fixed for Monday at Bandikalamma temple. The Siddapura police, who knew Manjunath had gone into hiding in Bangalore, were constantly in touch with the City police. The moment they learnt about his marriage plans, they went to the temple and arrested him just before the wedding.

The girl’s parents promptly cancelled the wedding. The Siddapura police took him away for inquiry, added the police.
