Three accidents claim 10 lives in N-K'taka

Ten people have died in three accidents in North Karnataka.

Four pilgrims including two women were killed after a speeding car rammed a stationary truck near Dundanatti village in Gokak taluk of Belgaum district late on Sunday night.

The dead are Sumitra Shivaji Patil, 54, from Kolhapur, Deepali Sandeep Karande, 24, from Pune, Ashtavinayak alias Vinayak Rajaram Patil, 37, a resident of Malikwad village in Chikodi taluk of Belgaum district and vehicle driver Sudeep, 27, from Kolhapur.

The driver died on the spot, while three others succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Raju Vinayak Patil and Sushma Vinayak Patil escaped with injuries.

The accident occurred when the passengers in the car were returning from a pilgrimage to Savadatti. The driver lost control of the vehicle as he violated traffic norms and it led to the accident.

The Gokak Rural police have registered a case.

In the other accident, four people of the same family were killed when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling rammed a stationary lorry from behind near a madrasa on the national highway, seven km from Sindhagi in Bijapur district, in the early hours of Monday.

Chandamma Yellappa Kavaldar, 65, Chandappa Yellappa Kavaldar, 30, and Thayappa Yankappa Kondikara, 35, were killed on the spot. Bheemareddi Devappa Mulimani, 25, died at the Bijapur government hospital.

He hails from Gogi K village in Surapur taluk of Yadgir district. Ningappa Manappa Unachimutt, the SUV driver who was injured in the accident, is undergoing treatment at the Bijapur government hospital.

The accident occurred when the SUV passengers were taking Chandamma, who had suffered a stroke, to Nagaramunavalli village in Chikodi taluk of Belgaum district for treatment.

The Sindhagi police have registered a case.

Killed on the spot

Two people were killed on the spot and three were injured when the Innova car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a lorry on national highway-13 near Ammakere Cross in Kudligi taluk of Bellary district, in the early hours of Monday.

Dada Kalander, 30, and M D Khaleel, 25, both residents of Hospet, are the deceased. Mansoor Ali, Sheik Ali, Kamal Bhash and Seetharam Kallur, hailing from Pune, were injured in the accident.

They have been shifted to the VIMS hospital in Bellary for treatment.

They were returning to Hospet from Bangalore after purchasing clothes when the accident occurred. The lorry was  on its way to Bangalore from Hospet.
