Veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari is likely to be cross-examined in the Delhi High Court on August 21 in a paternity suit filed by a youth seeking to declare the political leader as his biological father.

The 88-year-old leader, if he appears, would be quizzed by the counsel for 32-year-old Rohit Shekhar and his mother Ujjawala Sharma in the case which was filed in 2008.
S M Chopra, a former additional district judge who has been appointed as the local commissioner by the High Court to record evidence on a day-to-day basis, has fixed August 21 and 21 as dates for the examination of Tiwari in the case.

Asked to file affidavit

The local commissioner, who has already concluded the examination of Rohit and his mother, had asked the leader to file his evidence by way of an affidavit.

The counsel for Tiwari had indicated that he may file an application before the court seeking an order to conduct his cross-examination outside Delhi.

Tiwari has so far refused to settle the lawsuit out of court through mediation saying there was a possibility that even the medical evidence was not 100 per cent accurate.
The high court had on July 27 last year read out the DNA report in the case as per which Tiwari was shown as Shekhar's biological father.

Case history

Tiwari had given blood sample for the DNA test on May 29, 2012, at his residence in Dehradun following the apex court's order in the case, after repeatedly contesting against undergoing the test on various grounds.

Tiwari's pleas had been objected to by Rohit who had filed the paternity suit in 2008, claiming Tiwari leader to be his biological father. Tiwari had refuted his claim.
