<p>Even as the occasion was to launch the ambitious food security programme of the UPA government, the Congress virtually kick started its Assembly election campaign with the launch of the game changer scheme in Talkatora stadium on Tuesday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>While UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi acknowledged the efforts of the Delhi government in becoming the first state to launch the scheme, she let the political message going by praising the Sheila Dikshit government for changing the face of the capital over the past 15 years.<br /><br />“The Sheila Dikshit government has changed the face of Delhi. The difference is for all to see. The city government has changed the quality of life of residents by improving basic infrastructure. Facilities like Delhi Metro has received accolades from all over,” said Gandhi while addressing the gathering at Talkatora stadium.<br /><br />The entire cabinet of the Dikshit government, MPs from Delhi Mahabal Mishra, Ajay Maken, city Congress unit president and MP JP Agrawal, several MLAs, councillors and party workers were present at the occasion. <br /><br />Gandhi said the city government has ensured unparalleled development. “We are proud of it.”<br /><br />“I congratulate Sheila Dikshit and her cabinet for the work they have done. I hope they continue to do the good work,” she said to thunderous clapping by party workers.<br /><br />Dikshit said that with the launch of the food security programme, Congress will ensure that Delhi becomes a hunger-free state. “All 73 lakh beneficiaries under the scheme will start getting benefits of the scheme by January. Once implemented, nobody in the city will remain hungry,” she said. <br /><br />But the opposition BJP dubbed the launch of the food security scheme as a political move to derive political mileage from the scheme ahead of the Assembly polls. <br /><br />Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel alleged that in the past that the Delhi government launched the scheme without doing the groundwork about the number of actual beneficiaries and without putting into place a proper mechanism to implement the scheme. <br /><br />The party also protested near Talkatora stadium. It accused the Congress government of “robbing millions of households in Delhi by not checking prices of essential commodities and actually pushing them into the vicious circle of food insecurity”.</p>
