The Rashtriya Nava Nirmana Vedike is all set to celebrate the 87th birth anniversary of its late founder and ex-chief minister of the State, Ramakrishna Hegde, by conducting a seminar.

The seminar, to be held on August 29 in Bangalore, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a one-time associate of Hegde. Keynote speakers will be lawyer and politician Ram Jethmalani, JD(S) member of the Legislative Council M C Nanaiah, legal expert Uday Holla and advocate General Raviverma Kumar.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Vedike President Mamatha Nichani said on Thursday that the speakers would keep the recent Supreme Court ruling pertaining to decriminalisation of politics, as the focal point while presenting the papers. Dr C S Nadagouda of the JD(U) was present with Nichani.

The 16-year-old Vedike was formed by Hegde when he was expelled by H D Deve Gowda from the Janata Dal. Since then, it has been conducting various social activities, in addition to organising an annual seminar to coincide with Hegde’s birth anniversary.

Siddaramaiah, who was an Independent legislator, had received a lot of encouragement when Hegde was ruling the State and was appointed Kannada Kavalu Samiti president.

Later, Siddaramaiah joined the Janata Dal. Nadagouda said the Vedike has remained apolitical since Hegde’s time and said that politicians from all parties participate in its activities.
