A 12-year-old girl, who had gone with her younger brother to buy rakhi in Madiwala on Tuesday evening, is suspected to have been abducted by Ravi, an alleged serial kidnapper.

Police suspect Ravi, who is believed to be involved in many kidnappings, lured the girl into coming with him on the pretext of “buying” sarees for her mother.

The girl had been to a shop with her brother at Venkateshwara Layout when the suspect approached her, saying he had bought four sarees for her mother. He also asked the girl to accompany him to buy more sarees, the brother told the police.

In order to convince the girl, the suspect took the mobile phone number of her mother and rang her.

The victim then agreed to go with him, the brother recalled to the police.

The young boy also said he got fearful of the suspect as his sister went away with him on a motorcycle.

He then ran home and told his parents about the incident. The family went to the Madiwala police station and lodged a complaint of kidnap.

According to police sources, the boy was shown the photographs of some habitual offenders. He said the man who lured away his sister resembled Ravi.

Special team formed

Police have now formed a special team to track him down. Police sources claimed Ravi was a known offender and involved in kidnap of many girls. Ravi would often rob his victims before dumping them at far-off places after a few days.

He is also suspected to be the man who abducted a girl from Mahadevapura who was later rescued from Chikkaballapur. The suspect managed to slip away then.

He is also suspected to have abducted a girl from Banaswadi but was caught red-handed in V Kota, Andhra Pradesh.

He, however, gave the police a slip while being brought to the City.
