Fit-again Yuvi focuses on comeback

A long absence from the game has not diminished Yuvraj Singh's determination to return to the national team. Back after an exhaustive six-week training session at Brive La Gaillarde, France, the left-hander said he has no doubts about his "abilities" to push his way back into the team.

He and paceman Zaheer Khan trained under well-known high performance physical trainer Tim Exeter. The time away from constant scrutiny at home seemed to have done good to the fitter-looking middle-order batsman.

The 31-year-old was all praise for the youngsters for playing a key role in India winning the Champions Trophy and the ODI series in Zimbabwe, but added, “It is the balance of seniors and youngsters that makes a team strong. I am very happy with the way the youngsters have been performing.”

“My focus is on performing better. If I am sharp on the field and playing well, I will be there. I have no doubts about my abilities," Yuvraj said.

He, however, insisted that 2015 World Cup was not where he was focusing. "My immediate goal is to come back in to the team. The 2015 World Cup is very far. We still have an year and half. But it remains a part of my goal and I want to make it happen.

Playing for the country is the most important thing for me and I will do everything possible to do that,” he said at the sidelines of a promotional event on Friday. “I need to play as much cricket  I can before the Challengers.”

Yuvraj trained for sometime at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before deciding to head to France. "After recovering from cancer, I trained at the NCA for a while. But I wanted to train away from India because there are a lot of distractions here. Just staying away from media was a great help," said the star of India’s World Cup win in 2011.

Yuvraj has been interacting with Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun and said he reminded him of his growing up days. "Some time back (Sachin) Tendulkar told me that Arjun bats like me. When I watched him, he indeed reminded me of my younger days in Chandigarh. Arjun is passionate about the game and that comes from his father," said Yuvraj.
