Last Updated 24 August 2013, 08:43 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will win the 2014 elections and virtually ruled out early Lok Sabha polls.

Talking informally to media people after the inauguration of National Media Centre here, Gandhi also expressed hope that the food security bill will be passed in the monsoon session of parliament.

Asked if UPA-III (United Progressive Alliance-III) will be a reality, she said: "Yes, of course, 100 percent."

Asked what achievements the government would project in the elections, she said it would be on the basis of the rights-based governance it has been pushing like Right to Information, Right to Education and now Right to Food.

To a question about the possibility of early general elections, she said: "Our aim is to go till the end (of the government's tenure)."

Asked about the food security bill which is pending despite government efforts for its passage, Gandhi said: "We are hopeful it will be passed."

The United Progressive Alliance government, now in its second term, has been facing intense criticism from the opposition as well as the people on issues related to price rise, the economy and corruption.

The term of the UPA-II government will end in May next year.
