Clinical Uttar Pradesh surge ahead of Karnataka on first day

Last Updated 24 August 2013, 17:31 IST

A clinical bowling performance from Uttar Pradesh restricted Karnataka to 230 all out on the first day of their two-day quarterfinal match in the Buchi Babu tournament here on Saturday.

After Kuldeep Yadav’s five-wicket haul, the Uttar Pradesh batsmen didn’t fritter away the advantage to find themselves at 118/2 in 36 overs at stumps - they need 113 more runs in a maximum of 64 more overs to book a place in the semifinals.

Karnataka’s top-order disappointed but fighting hands from J Suchith (71 not out) and Abhimanyu Mithun (45) brought their total a modicum of respectability.

In another match at the Guru Nanaka College grounds, Andhra were 20/2 after bowling out TNCA XI for 261 in 96.3 overs. Maaruthi Raghav (74) and R Ashwin (60) struck half-centuries for the home side with contributions from Kaushik Gandhi (44) and K Bharath Shankar (40). GSV Prasad (4/49) and Bharat Reddy (3/48) were among the wickets for Andhra.

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, TNCA President’s XI reached 396/9 in 100 overs against Hyderabad riding on KB Karthick’s 162.
