Last Updated 11 November 2009, 17:08 IST

The boat had left Ullal on November 7. Coastal Security Police Inspector Mukund Nayak told Deccan Herald that the boat was traced near Gangolli and all fishermen were safe.

The boat belonged to one Mohammed Ashraf of Kotepura in Ullal. The fishermen in the boat were Selva, Gagan and Pongaraj. The boat with three fishermen went for fishing on November 7 and was supposed to return on November 9. However, on November 9, the three fishermen called up the owner and said that the boat is 35 nautical miles away from the shore and the engine has developed technical problem. The owner sent another boat to rescue the fishermen. However, the boat returned as they could not locate the boat in distress.

It may be recalled that two boats which went for fishing on October 11 with Tamil fishermen have also gone missing since then. All the 15 fishermen are from Dindigal in Tamil Nadu. Two boats have been given to a certain Amalanathan of Srilanka on contract by the local fishermen. Amalnathan has taken the boats on October 11 and 13. Since then, the boats have been missing. It is said that the missing trawl boats had 3,500 litre diesel which is sufficient for a month. However, no information is available on the boats so far.
