Nayak stated in a press release that the insurance scheme is compulsory for all farmers, who avail agricultural loans. Farmers can enrol themselves under the scheme by paying the instalment before December 31 (for retreating monsoon crop) and before February 28, 2010 (for summer kharif).
Farmers should register for the scheme 20 days after the sowing of seeds or plantation of saplings. Small farmers can avail 10 per cent subsidy in the instalment.
Farmers can contact concerned finance institute or Agricultural Insurance Company of India, Bangalore (080-25322860) in case of crop loss due to any calamity within 48 hours.
