Last Updated 04 September 2013, 20:47 IST

A class 8 student, said to be frustrated by his schoolmates’ taunts about his “skinny” frame, reportedly hanged himself to death at his house HAL 2nd State here on Tuesday evening.

Nagavinay, 14, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the hall of the house. His parents were away at work when the incident reportedly occurred.

Upon their return, they peeped through the window into the house and were stunned to see him hanging, police said. Nagavinay used his mother’s saree to take the extreme step.

Police sources said the deceased had complained to his parents about being bullied by his schoolmates. His “skinny” frame was particularly the object of ridicule at the school, his parents said.

Recently, he joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC). He complained to his parents how his schoolmates mocked him for joining the NCC. Being so bony, how dare he think of joining the Army, they are said to have remarked to him.

The parents then went to the school and tried to resolve the issue. Their intervention did little to improve the situation and Nagavinay again became the object of ridicule, police sources explained. He was increasingly being mocked at school as well as in the NCC.

No death note has been found. J B Nagar police have booked a case of unnatural death. The body was taken to Tumkur as the family hails from the town.
