No CBI letter on arresting MLAs: Speaker

Last Updated 06 September 2013, 19:52 IST

Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa maintained that his office has not received any letter from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking permission for the arrest of four MLAs in connection with the case of missing iron ore from the Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada district.

On Friday, he said: “I have not been intimated by the CBI in this regard. Besides, the officers of the CBI need not approach the presiding officer for permission to arrest any MLA unless he or she was either in the Assembly or in Legislators’ Home. If I receive the letter, I will discharge my duties as per the norms.”
