Brace for more traffic congestion this weekend in City

The traffic police have imposed the following restrictions in view of the annual Feast at St Mary’s Bassilica in Shivajinagar on Sunday. The restrictions will come into effect at 7 am on Sunday and last till 9 am on Monday.

There will be no entry for vehicles on these stretches:

* Meenakshi Koil Street from Jyothi Café Circle towards Russel Market and vice versa.

* Broadway Road from its junction with Cockburn Road towards Russell Market and vice versa.

* Dharmaraja Koil from its junction with Old Poor House road towards Russell Market Taj Circle.

* BRV junction on Cubbon Road towards Shivajinagar bus stand; from south to north, including BMTC buses.

* Balekundry Circle towards Shivajinagar bus stand; from west to east including BMTC buses from 2 pm onwards.

Parking banned:

*Russel Market, Broadway Road,  Meenakshi Koil Street, Central Street, Shivaji Road, Cunningham Road — between Balekundry Circle and the Chandrika Hotel junction, Union Street, Infantry Road, Cubbon Road, Hospital Road, Lady Curzon Road, VSN Road,  Plain Street, MG Road and Brigade Road.

Parking allowed here:

*Kamaraj Road parking lot — opposite Army School, Guard Cross Road, opposite Safina Plaza, inside Cubbon Park, Kings Road, Jasma Bhavan Road, RBANMS Grounds (Gangadhar Chetty Road), Muslim Orphanage, Dickenson Road (next to Hasanth College), Miller Road from Vikram Hospital to Ali Asker Road Junction, T Chowdiah Road, opposite  Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain (northern side).

Temporary bus stops:

* Buses plying on Halasur, OM road, Domlur, KR Pura, Marathahalli, Varthur ,Whitefield, Neelasandra and Viveknagar (East Bangalore) route will stop on Cubbon Road - from BRV Junction to Manipal Centre on the northern side.

*Buses plying on Jayanagar JP Nagar, Srinagar, Shanthinagar, KH Road, Hosur Road, Koramangala, Bannerghatta (South Bangalore) have been provided temporary stop on Cubbon Road  - from Manipal Centre Kamaraja Road Junction to BRV Junction, southern side.

* Buses on Majestic, Vijayanagar KR Market, Malleswaram, Rajajinagar,  Mysore road (West Bangalore) will stop on Queens Road and Balekundry Circle-Traffic Headquarters (Parsi Temple)

*Jalahalli, Banasawadi, (North Bangalore) will stop on Cunningham Road - Balekundry Circle up to Chandrika Hotel junction.

Slow traffic

Traffic movement is likely to be slow or disrupted towards the evening on Saturday and Sunday in view of the movement of a large number of commuters in and around the Bangalore City Railway Station and the Central Bus Stand. The KSRTC will ply additional buses to various destinations in view of the Gauri-Ganesha festival.

Prohibitory orders

Sale of alcohol in bars and other establishments under the Commercial Street and Bharthi Nagar police station limits will be prohibited from 7 am to 11 pm on Sunday on account of St Mary’s feast, said an official statement from the Commissioner’s office.

Nearly one lakh people are expected to participate in the annual feast. After holding mass in various languages till about noon, the procession (chariot) will leave the church in the evening, via MK Street, Shivaji Road, Broadway Road, Russel Market and Naronha Road before returning to the church.
