Drive-in theatres to make a comeback?

After a failed attempt to have a drive-in theatre to entertain the audience two years ago during Dasara, the district administration is planning a drive-in theatre again. The plan appears to be a wise idea to entertain tourists, provided the rains does not play spoilsport.

Though final details on having a drive-in theatre is yet to be finalised, the district administration and the film committee are working on it, said Deputy Commissioner C Shikha.
Following her inspection of venues, where various programmes will be organised during Dasara, Shikha said, they are ‘contemplating’ to put up a drive-in theatre again at J K Grounds this year.

Film sub-committee, under the Dasara executive committee, is also preparing for Dasara celebrations. Like every year, films will be screened at five theatres, two multiplexes, Scouts and Guides Hall and Senate Bhavan, Manasagangothri.

Working president of film sub-committee and deputy director of department of information and publicity A R Prakash said, 90 movies will be selected to be screened during Dasara celebrations in the city.

We will chose a combination of popular Kannada movies, award winning films and others with consultation with the Mysore Film Society, he said.

Prakash recalled that despite having a drive-in theatre during Dasara in the city a few years ago, rains had dampened the spirits of the people, who wanted to visit it.
