The hunt for the right backdrop

Film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj has revealed plans to set his next film — based on Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ — in Kashmir. The film is in its final stages of scripting and is set for release in 2014 to coincide with the 450th birth anniversary celebrations of the famous English playwright.

“I need a violent, political backdrop for ‘Hamlet’. Also, I believe that in the mainstream, we haven’t really made a film about what is happening in Kashmir,” Vishal says. “I hope I am able to achieve that as it is a very difficult subject to handle — Kashmir as well as ‘Hamlet’. I have made things difficult for myself but I thought for my trilogy, let me at least attempt something bigger than me,” the director adds about his third and final instalment based on Shakespeare’s tragedies after Maqbool (Macbeth) and Omkara (Othello).

Inspired by her sister

Parineeti Chopra is on an all-new high — she’s back to the silver screen after a short break and the project couldn’t have been a better one. Shuddh Desi Romance, which also stars Sushant Singh Rajput and newcomer Vaani Kapoor, is a quirky film on modern relationships set against a rustic backdrop. The film released recently and there were murmurs of dissent between Parineeti and her cousin, Priyanka Chopra, since the latter’s film Zanjeer also released on the same day. However, the younger actress is quick to dismiss these, maintaining that Priyanka is a huge inspiration for her.

After bagging the Miss World title in 2000, Priyanka ventured into films and she is among the top Bollywood actresses today. She has also forayed into singing with two international singles — ‘In My City’ and ‘Exotic.’ Parineeti, who joined the show business in 2011 with ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl,’ is all praises for her elder sister. Parineeti says, “The kind of launch Priyanka has got — I don’t think any singer must have got (that). Singers always wait for one hit song so that they can move in the right direction, but she has directly reached Hollywood. It’s the biggest launch ever.

If I get any such opportunity I would never say no.” The actress adds that she harbours singing dreams too. “It is my dream to become a playback singer. I am trained in singing, so one day, I will certainly sing,” she explains.

‘You need to work on every relationship’

Kajol says that her actor husband Ajay Devgan has brought a lot of stability in her life.
“I have become calmer. He has brought a lot of stability in my life. We are different people but we believe in same things,” says Kajol. “It is necessary to love someone but it is also necessary to respect (them). I respect him greatly and that is one of the reasons why our relationship has lasted till now,” she adds.

Kajol and Ajay tied the knot in 1999. The actress decided to settle down at the peak of her career. The couple have a daughter and a son. On the secret of her successful marriage, Kajol says, “You need to work on every relationship — including marriage — every day. You can’t work or do things on occasions only — like your anniversary or Diwali. You need to invest time and work in every relationship.”

The actress also reveals that she is a strict parent to her kids. “I am the stricter one between the two of us. I have to be strict because I’m more often at home,” she adds.
