Commonwealth scholarship and fellowship

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan for 2014 has been announced and the deadline is October 11, 2013 for receiving the applications in the Ministry by post or hand. The last date for applying online through http://mhrd.gov.in/ is October 6, 2013. However, hard copy of application alongwith supporting documents should reach by 11 October 2013 either by post or hand.

CBSE’s aptitude test in November

What next – science, arts or commerce? The question haunts most of the Class X students as the write their final exam. To help Classes IX and X students choose subjects for their senior secondary classes, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the fourth Students Global Aptitude Index (SGAI) assessment test in November. The SGAI will help students know their aptitude. Its questions will not be from the text books. They will only include psychological questions. The test is optional for students.

Changes introduced in GATE 2014

What is New in GATE 2014?. A new paper “Ecology and Evolution” is introduced in GATE 2014. Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by online computer based test. The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of multiple choice question type.GATE 2014 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends between 1st Feb and 2nd March 2014.

Important dates: Last date for enrollment: (Oct 1); for submission of online applications (Oct 3), for change in the choice of the city (Nov 20), Availability of admit card (Dec 18), online examination (Feb 1 and March 2, 2014). Announcement of results: (March 28, 2014).

Filmmaking workshop for students

The British Council, in association with First Light (UK) and Skills Factory presents ‘Lights, Camera Workshop’ – a two-day workshop on filmmaking for students (ages 13 to 18) at the British Library, 23, Prestige Takt, Kasturba Road Cross Bangalore 560001 on September 14 and September 15 1 pm to 7 pm. Students will have to register with a brief about themselves in not more than 50 words to be sent to Vani Shivakumar at vani.shivakumar@in.britishcouncil.org. Shortlisted participants will be informed by Saturday 14 September 2013. The activity is part of British Council’s film education programme for schools in India. The workshop will be led by Daniel Smith of First Light, UK.

CBSE revamps oral assessment skills

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to modify its assessment of oral skills to provide a level playing field for students who suffer from speech and hearing impairment. The central board had introduced the Assessment of Speaking and Listening (ASL) skills last year as a way to make the oral testing more detailed and at par with international testing standards.

Commonwealth Scholarship

Applications are invited from Indian nationals either on line throughhttp://mhrd.gov.in/or on plain paper for nominations from India for the award of Commonwealth Scholarships in United Kingdom tenable fromSeptember/ October 2014 for higher studies/research/specialized training in various subjects in the United Kingdom. Up to Sixty five (65) nominations are to be sent to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection to be made by them. Out ofthese not more than twenty six (26) are for doctoral studies. Last Date: 6th October, 2013 for applying online and 11th October, 2013 for receiving application in the Ministry by post /byhand

Research internship award from IIT

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has invited applications for Research Internship Award 2013-14. Last date  for submission of application form: 30th  September, 2013.

Tentative  dates for interview: 11th  November, 2013 to 17th  November, 2013. Duration of  Internship: Four to Six months between: December-2013 and June-2014. The application process consists of an online application to be submitted  through this webpage www.ircc.iitb.ac.in

LIC scholarship

The LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation has invited applications from Students belonging to the Economically Weaker families for the award of scholarships to pursue higher studies.
Eligibility: Students  who have passed Class XII exam in the academic year 2012-13  and want to pursue higher education in medicine, engineering, graduation in any discipline, diploma course, vocational courses through Government recognized Colleges/Institutes or  courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI).

Candidates who have passed Class XII exam or equivalent in the academic  year 2012-13 with at least 60% marks  or equivalent grade and annual income of whose parents/guardian from all  sources does not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- per annum.

ISCE Council signs MoU for 3D learning

The Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (CICSE) has singned an MoU with Autodesk to promote science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics education in India. 

The partnership will benefit nearly two million students from the 6th grade onwards across 2,000 schools under the board’s jurisdiction.

Schools will have technology access (2D and 3D design software), Curriculum development (update existing and develop curricula to prepare students for future academic and career success),  Training model (to educate faculty members) and  Immersive learning experiences.
